Our very own Iris San is currently in the running for “Sweetheart” of the Delta Chi Fraternity in the Lady of the Leges / Sweetheart Competition! As “Sweetheart” of Delta Chi, Iris would be deemed a beloved friend of the Delta Chi Fraternity. When I spoke with Iris she said sees the Sweetheart title is considered to be a sister or a best friend to the brothers in the Fraternity.
Iris is considered an underdog in the competition because she is currently not a member of a Sorority, unlike the other three ladies running. When I asked Iris why she wanted to run for Delta Chi’s Sweetheart she said, “The way I see their Fraternity is that they are a true brotherhood…if I am going to be a Sweetheart I want to be a part of a family than ‘just a Fraternity’ and Delta Chi represents what a real brotherhood looks like.”
Make sure you take note of the dates November 19 – 21. During these three days you can support Iris in her competition to become Delta Chi’s Sweetheart, all while raising money for cancer research. Delta Chi is hosting a series of philanthropy events on campus for their first inaugural Hands of Humanity benefit. All proceeds raised from the events will go to The V Foundation for Cancer Research. Iris will be able to gain points toward winning the Sweetheart title during these philanthropy events. If you attend or participate in any of the events in support of PRSSA and Iris, she will be awarded points that will then be added up at the end of the competition. The points Iris collects will contribute to her overall score and help her win the Sweetheart title.
On the November 19th the Hands of Humanity benefit will kick off with the “Pie a D Chi” event. From 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. you can throw a pie at a Delta Chi brother for $2 in the library quad. Also in the quad that day they will be holding a food/toiletry drive. All the non-perishables and toiletries collected will be donated to the ASI food pantry. Coin Wars will also be taking place in the library quad as well on the 19th. For this event you can put change in the bin labeled with PRSSA’s name; BUT only put quarters, nickels and dimes in the bin! Save your pennies for the other bins. Pennies will take points away from an organizations score and the bigger coins will gain points. At any of the events, if you choose to Pie, Donate or drop some change be sure to go under PRSSA and Iris to help rack up points!
Day two of the Hands of Humanity benefit, November 20, Delta Chi will host the Lady of the Leges kickball tournament. The tournament will take place on the intramural fields starting at 10 a.m. Iris will be playing in the tournament along with fellow PRSSA members so head out there to show your support!
On the final day, November 21, the Lady of the Leges Crowning Ceremony will take place in Hinde Auditorium at 9 a.m. If you purchased a Lady of the Leges T-shirt from Iris, be sure to wear it to this event! Not only will your T-shirt get you into the ceremony for free but it will gain Iris extra points. Even if you don’t have a T-shirt you can still attend the ceremony for $2 and gain Iris points. During the ceremony Iris will be showing off her knowledge of Delta Chi’s history, their Fraternity (nationally and locally), the general active membership, The V Foundation, etc. It should be intense! At the end Iris should be crowned Delta Chi’s Sweetheart because I know all of you are going to support her at all the events, so naturally she will have the most points!
If you have any questions feel free to ask Iris. Hope to see you at the events!
