If you have had a class with Dr. Howard, you have certainly heard the "Thank You Note" lecture. But here is the question: Are thank you notes really necessary? Why not just send an email? I mean, we live in a digital world. Let's save time and trees right?
A thank you note shows the recipient that you took the time to hand write a thoughtful, original note. You had to pick the card, the envelope, the color of pen, use your best penmanship, personalize the message, lick the envelope closed, write out their address, stick a stamp on the front and PHYSICALLY place it in the mail. Whew! Compare that to: Compose, Type, Send.
What you'll learn as a PR major at Sac State and member of PRSSA is that the little things are actually BIG things. Taking the time to write out a thank you note makes a HUGE impression to an employer, business contact, professor, or family member. When applied to the business world, a simple thank you note can be the difference between a second interview and a "we have decided to pursue other applicants."
Take it from Howard. Not everything is digital. ALWAYS send a thank you note and stand out above the rest!
